SOOOOO.....HAPPY! All smiles in my RAW ART room!! I applied for a very easy grant at www.donorschoose.org and had individuals from all over donate $$ to my project. I received these 4 digital cameras in the mail on April 5!! It was such a painless process I have already applied for a second grant! If you haven't tried this...you really should.

Pezzettino Masterpieces with Leo Lionni
"Pezzettino lives in a world in which everyone is big and does daring and wonderful things. But he is small, just a “little piece,” which is the meaning of pezzettino in Italian. “I must be a piece of somebody. I must belong to someone else,” he thinks. How Pezzettino learns that he belongs to no one but himself is the joyous and satisfying conclusion to this beautiful mosaic style picture book." - Amazon

Students get CREATIVE with Photography & Paint.net
My students AMAZE me with their creative talent! My 2nd-6th graders have been dabbling with paint.net which is like a easy type of Photoshop. They are getting so much better with using it each time. This project was a bit more advanced then our previous projects.

My students had to take photos of themselves and photos of their hand. Next they selected a background that would fit their photo and collage it together on the computer. They created a background, layered their photo and layered other details to make it really POP! I just love them and we have had tons of compliments on their pieces. Here are a few that they created.

Layering Pictures with paint.net
OK....so these are NOT my favorite, but it was part of the learning process. We used paint.net and images from the Internet to layer and create art pieces. We first began with the Dr. Seuss images below so you can see how they are basic. They designed the background, had to find a Dr. Seuss character to use and a quote. They turned out pretty blah and if we had more time we could have created a them into a bit more I'm sure. But this is when they were learning how to use the program. You can see how we continue to progress the more that I will be posting. The 2nd class period they were instructed to find a background off Google images then find an image and make large and something crazy that would not normally belong. They started getting a bit more creative here...but we still have a ways to go.

Grid Art Block, Digital Art, Initials & paint.net
My Digital Art class made these awesome pieces using paint.net! We created a grid first as
our background. On their next layer they colored each block a
different color, careful not to let two of the same colors touch. The final layer required them to create their initial on top of the color blocks. They look really cool and if they were mine I would frame them and hang in my room.

Stand Tall self portraits
Meet Molly Lou Melon. Molly Lou is short and clumsy, has
buck teeth, and has a voice that sounds like a bullfrog being squeezed
by a boa constrictor. She doesn't mind. Her grandmother has always
told her to walk proud, smile big, and sing loud, and she takes that to
heart. When Molly Lou has to start in a new school and a horrible bully
picks on her the very first day, she knows just what to do.

My kindergarten and 1st grade did watercolor with salt and glue for the background. Next they drew their portraits on white paper and glued them on top of the watercolor. Love them!!
