Grant Wood comes to Arkansas?

We used our study of Grant Wood and compared his art work to our great state.  Thank you Grant Wood for helping us generate some fabulous ideas for our Great American Clean Up art poster for ARKANSAS!
LOVED how these kiddos learned to draw AR.  Use my tricks from the power point.

WE HEART ARKANSAS - My Home Sweet Home by Amy Simpson

We have been working on our annual MYCARDs art project.  This is where my students design art work that their families can choose to order into "note cards and envelopes" with their art printed on the front.  It is a fund raiser for the art program and I use the funds to purchase frames, canvases, materials for the art room.

And they are just super cute!  This year we are using my friend, teacher and author's book My Home Sweet Home & MY ARKANSAS for our literature piece.  It is written by Amy Simpson who lives in Jonesboro, AR  It is a personal book so you fill in the blanks to fit where you live on the map.  You can contact Amy directly by email at amy@arareading.org.  Amy also serves on the Arkansas Reading Association board with me.

You can use the company to do your own cards at www.mountaincolor.com

Wild about Arkansas! Go Team!

Wooo Pig Sooie!!!  Thank you Stacy at SleepyHeadDesigns for the motivational ideas!

We also viewed some of the fabulous art works from
Abby Carman.

My afterschool group of 2nd-5th graders showed how proud we are of our Arkansas with our tribute to the Razorbacks, Arkansas State Redwolves and our schools Pioneers.

My students used large flat dell computer boxes for our canvas.  They primed them first then used yellow paint to draw their outline then let their creativity take hold.  I really love all the personality these pieces have.
Here is the link to the power point I used with some of Carmen's Work and ideas from Sleepyhead.
