If you worried about falling of the bike, you'd never get on. Lance Armstrong -ride on artist!

We used Gail Gibbons Bicycle Book on this art adventure.  She is known for her non-fiction books which are so important for our students to experience.  We learned lots of cool facts about the first bikes from her books as well as the parts of a bike.

We took at trip outside to sit in the grass and observe a real bicycle.  My students used computer boxes to hold their materials and serve as their desk to draw on outside.  We also used graph paper to help them with dimensions and proportion when drawing their bikes.

Last we took our pieces indoors, used markers to add color and label our pieces.

The final pieces are on my lost zip drive some where in the packed up art room...I will post as soon as I discover it!

Recycled Cannettes - Triglia Inspired

My afterschool art class had fun making these recycled painted can faces inspired by the artist Didier Triglia.  You can see my power point link below that we used and the sites below had several great ideas!  This was an end of the year project and I wish we would have had more time to elaborate on our pieces.

Thank you to THE SMART TEACHER blog that provided this project idea:  http://www.thesmartteacher.com/exchange/resource/328/Didier-Triglia-Head-Cans

Michelle did some cool pieces with her students at http://tinyartroom.wordpress.com/tag/didier-triglia/, and I love the pieces Steph did with hers at http://acorntooakart.com/2013/04/07/recycled-aluminum-cans-in-the-style-of-didier-triglia/.  It was the end of school for us, but I wish we would have had more time to create some extensions to go with ours.

The Rainbow Fish, Britto & the Kinders

Kindergarten had a splashing good time with our books Only One and The Rainbow Fish.  We used our books to go with one of my favorite bright cheery artist - Romero Britto.  His fish art seen above just bubble me over with happy feelings.  My presentation is below that you can use on how we made our fish.  The most fun they had was the "BUBBLE FACTORY"...or in grown up terms:  toilet paper rolls dipped in paint to make the bubble look.  If you give anything a cool name, you get amazing results in the art room!
