ATTENTION:  ARKANSAS ART TEACHERS

I need a little help.  Last week I had an art teacher from Arkansas email with me some questions on integrating art and literacy after attending my presentation at the Arkansas Art Conference.  For some reason, my email deleted a chunk of emails and I did not get to respond...boo.

If my friend that emailed me will kindly resend I would love to comment or if anyone has specific questions they would like to post here I will respond.

Seruat's Eiffel Tower with Bling

4th-6th graders did a study on George Seurat and his style of pointillism. We looked at his painting of the Eiffel Tower and then we learned many facts and watched a documentary on the Eiffel Tower. They created their own version of the Eiffel Tower using pointillism. Very Cool!  They used sharpies to draw the tower, crayon or marker to create the dots, glitter to the outline and finally created a fact card about the Eiffel Tower to display at the bottom of their piece.

Peace On Earth

I had my sub do these with my students and I think they turned out great!  I made the power point on the link below, but encouraged them to use it as a guide and add their own creative style.  They created the red berries with their finger prints and used felt to make the bird.  These were all made on inserts from boxes that made a great sturdy canvas.

Miss Spider's Tea Party & Mary Cassatt

Stuffed Cooperative Tea Cups and Stacked Cups all made for Miss Spider's Tea Party!  Thanks to our influence from Mary Cassatt and her painting "The Tea".

These stacked cups were also inspired from by:

from Brunswick Acres Elementary School— grade 3.  They were just to perfect to go along with our Mary Cassatt study and Miss Spider's tea party.  My 3-4th grade did the stacked cups and my 5th and 6th graders did the "Cooperative Cups" below that they stuffed!

Snail Trails with Matisse

Love this book and the artwork in it!  In this book a snail tells the story as he tries to find the artwork that looks like him.  He goes through a variety of artworks from famous artist to find him before he finds his Matisse portrait.  My students created "painting with scissors" snail shells then used water colors to paint the snail and background.  Oh they look so "snail-tisse"! 

Zoom! Istvan Banyai

Zoom is one of my favorite wordless books!  Istvan Banyai takes the reader on a journey through a series of "zoomed" illustrations as four of the pages below show.  The book is cleverly designed and my students love making predictions and following the story.  My classes made up the story to go with the book and my digital art class used photographs and mirrored the book by creating 4 of their own zoomish photos and displayed them together. 

 

Here my students took photo's of themselves to be part of the title of the book!
